Mrs. Dora S. Gilliland, wife of W.C. Gilliland, of south of the city, died at Culver Union Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Gilliland underwent an operation for cancer five weeks ago and the complications which set in finally caused her death. One son, Manson, and a daughter Bessie together with one brother, Joseph Stith of Danville, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. F. M. Alston, of Excelsor Springs Mo. Mrs. Gilliland had been ill for several months past, but the cause of her affliction was not known until the middle of October. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stith of this city and was born here March 3, 1858. On the first day of March 1883 she was married to Mr. Gilliland. With her husband she has resided near this city since that time. Funeral services will be held from the late home at 10: 30 Friday morning and will be in charge of Rev. Fred Whitlow Hixon, pastor of the First M.E. church. Interment will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery. - kbz
